Thrust Capital Partners has acquired Alphacasting Inc., a Quebec-based manufacturer specialising in precision investment castings for the aerospace and defence sectors.
Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
Founded in 1991, Alphacasting manufactures complex castings from a wide range of alloys, with a particular focus on high-strength aluminium.
The company also has titanium casting capabilities.
New leadership
Louis Marc Pinard, formerly Chief Operating Officer of AP&C, part of GE Aerospace, is joining Alphacasting as CEO in partnership with Thrust Capital Partners.
Frederik Centazzo, who helped develop the company alongside his father, Arduino Centazzo, will remain with Alphacasting as Vice President of Sales & Business Development.
The transaction therefore combines new private-equity ownership and leadership with continuity from the founding family.
Specialist industrial private equity
Thrust Capital Partners is a Canadian private equity firm focused specifically on the aerospace and defence supply chain.
That sector specialisation is relevant in advanced manufacturing, where technical knowledge, certification requirements, customer relationships and operational capabilities can create significant barriers to entry.
The acquisition also illustrates the role of private capital in the ownership transition of specialist industrial businesses.
For investors, aerospace and defence manufacturing can provide exposure to long-duration industrial demand, but the sector also requires detailed understanding of supply chains, customers, regulation and manufacturing execution.
