HashKey Exchange and Franklin Templeton intend to make a tokenised share class of the Franklin OnChain U.S. Government Liquidity Fund, identified as grBENJI, available through the exchange's Earn Channel from 24 August 2026.

Access is restricted to eligible professional investors in Asia. The structure gives those investors exposure to a regulated US government money fund in tokenised form, held and transacted on a licensed digital asset platform rather than through a traditional transfer agent.

Franklin Templeton reported approximately US$1.80 trillion in assets under management as at 31 July 2026. Its onchain fund work is among the longer-running tokenisation programmes run by a major asset manager, rather than a recent entry into the field.

The commercial logic is straightforward. Investors holding digital assets on an exchange generally hold cash balances alongside them; a tokenised money fund converts part of that idle balance into a yield-bearing regulated instrument without leaving the platform.

For family offices, the significance is less about the yield and more about the plumbing. Tokenised share classes change how subscription, redemption and settlement are recorded, which in turn affects custody arrangements, reconciliation and reporting.
