Oxford-based agricultural biotechnology company Moa Technology has raised €25.9 million, approximately £22.2 million, in Series C financing.

The round was co-led by Oxford Science Enterprises and Supernova Invest. New investors include Agri Investment Fund, GrainInnovate, Infinity Investment Partners and Magdalen College, Oxford. Existing support includes Oxford Science Enterprises, Lansdowne Partners, Parkwalk and Oxford University Innovation.

From university research to commercial pipeline

Moa was founded in 2017 by Professor Liam Dolan and Dr Clément Champion and spun out of the University of Oxford. The company is developing new approaches to herbicide-resistant weeds, a persistent constraint on agricultural productivity.

Its discovery platform incorporates proprietary data, artificial intelligence and machine learning. The company reports discovering more than 80 novel mode-of-action areas.

Where the capital is directed

According to the company, the capital will support its three most advanced programmes, its earlier-stage herbicide pipeline and the Moa Amplifiers programme.

The investor group is notable for combining university-linked capital, specialist agricultural funds and a college endowment — a structure that has become characteristic of later-stage Oxford commercialisation rounds.

The wider AgriTech picture

Moa is not an isolated case. AI-enabled discovery and precision breeding are drawing growth capital across the UK sector, including the acquisition of wheat breeder F1 Seed by Oxford spin-out Wild Bioscience.

For allocators, AgriTech sits between deep technology and real assets: long development timelines, regulatory dependency, and eventual revenue tied to established agricultural supply chains.
