LemonEdge has completed a $21 million Series A funding round led by Blackstone Innovations Investments, with BNY joining the round and existing investor Sidekick Partners also participating.
The financing takes LemonEdge's total capital raised to more than $30 million.
The company plans to use the investment to accelerate product development and continue expanding in the United States and Europe.
Infrastructure for private markets
Founded in 2020, LemonEdge provides fund-accounting and operations technology for private markets.
The company says its platform is used across private equity, fund administrators and large family offices, with more than $2.5 trillion in assets under client management.
Its proposition centres on bringing fund accounting, data and operational processes into a governed system of record.
That issue has become increasingly important as private-market portfolios grow in scale and complexity.
Private assets can involve capital calls, distributions, valuations, complex ownership structures, multiple entities and detailed investor reporting. Legacy technology can make those processes operationally intensive.
Leadership expansion
LemonEdge has appointed David T. O'Malley as Chief Executive Officer and Board Chair.
The company has also appointed Katharine Briggs as Chief Growth Officer, with responsibility for global go-to-market strategy, delivery and client expansion.
Why family offices should pay attention
For family offices increasing their exposure to private markets, operational infrastructure is not simply a back-office question.
As portfolios become more complex, the quality of accounting, reporting, data governance and auditability can directly affect investment oversight.
Technology investment across private markets is therefore increasingly about the quality and control of the underlying data as much as automation itself.
