CVC DIF, the infrastructure business of global private markets manager CVC, has agreed to acquire a significant majority stake in firstcolo GmbH. The investment will be made through CVC DIF Value Add IV, with CUBE Infrastructure as seller. Completion is expected by the end of September 2026, subject to customary closing conditions.

Founded in 2007, firstcolo is a data centre and digital infrastructure provider in the Frankfurt metropolitan region. It operates two data centres and serves more than 350 customers with colocation, dedicated hardware, cloud, connectivity and managed services.

The existing management team — Jerome Evans as chief executive, Nicolaj Kamensek as chief operating officer and Dennis Bergfeld as chief financial officer — will continue to lead the company through its next phase of development.

The initial focus is the FRA7 greenfield project in Rosbach vor der Höhe. The facility will provide up to 24MW of total capacity, equivalent to up to 16MW of IT load, and is designed for artificial intelligence, high-performance computing and cloud workloads.

FRA7 is planned as an AI-ready site from the outset, with infrastructure designed for liquid-cooled high-density racks supporting up to 200kW per rack. firstcolo is targeting a power usage effectiveness ratio below 1.2. The site, power supply, permits and turnkey construction delivery have already been secured, and the company has entered a partnership with regional energy provider OVAG.

Digital infrastructure has become one of the most contested allocations in private markets, sitting between real assets and technology. The determining variables are increasingly physical — secured power, permitting and cooling capability — rather than demand, and those constraints are what distinguish deliverable projects from announced ones.
