
Qatar Investment Authority (QIA) has participated in HyperLight's $80 million Series C funding round as the company expands the production and deployment of optical-chip technology for AI data centres.
HyperLight develops thin-film lithium niobate (TFLN) photonic chips designed to provide high-speed, energy-efficient optical connectivity for AI infrastructure, data centres, telecommunications networks and computing applications.
The financing was led by MediaTek Innovation Fund, with participation from investors across the AI infrastructure value chain, including strategic investors from silicon and networking companies.
HyperLight said the financing will support the expansion of manufacturing capacity, accelerate customer qualification, scale deployment of its TFLN Chiplet Platform and deepen partnerships across the semiconductor, networking and systems-integration ecosystem.
The financing follows HyperLight's announced partnership with UMC and Wavetek to support high-volume foundry production.
QIA said its investment reflects its focus on technology companies developing infrastructure for AI and advanced computing.
The sovereign wealth fund said technologies supporting higher bandwidth, lower power consumption and more efficient network performance are expected to become increasingly important as demand for AI computing increases.
