HSBC announced on 2 July 2026 the appointment of Dimitri Anghelakis as Global Head of Trust and Fiduciary Services, effective 17 August 2026. He will relocate from London to Hong Kong.

Anghelakis succeeds Brent York, who will retire after more than three decades with HSBC. York will remain with the business as an adviser until the middle of 2027 to support a smooth transition.

Reporting line and structure

Trust and Fiduciary Services will become part of HSBC Private Bank, with Anghelakis reporting to Ida Liu, Chief Executive Officer of HSBC Private Bank.

The business supports entrepreneurs, philanthropists and families with specialist services to help preserve wealth, manage successions and plan legacies for future generations.

Background

Anghelakis joined HSBC in September 2017 as Group Head of Business Development for HSBC Life and Insurance Partnerships, with responsibility spanning sales, strategy and planning, and sustainability. He was appointed Chief of Staff, Wealth and Personal Banking, in April 2021 and became Head of the Office of the Group Chairman in January 2024.

He previously held senior roles at an international bank across treasury, transaction banking, wealth management and insurance, and earlier served as a career diplomat for the Government of Greece. He holds an MBA from Stanford Graduate School of Business and law degrees from the London School of Economics, the College of Europe (Bruges) and the University of Strasbourg.

Commentary

Ida Liu, Chief Executive Officer of HSBC Private Bank, said: "I'd like to thank Brent for his significant contribution to TFS, its clients and colleagues over more than three decades with HSBC. He leaves a business with deep expertise in supporting families across generations and I'm delighted Dimitri will lead it through its next chapter."

Dimitri Anghelakis said: "Trust and Fiduciary Services is a specialist business with deep expertise supporting families across generations. I am looking forward to working with the team and further strengthening this important business for our clients."

Relevance to family offices

Two elements of the announcement matter beyond the individual appointment. The first is structural: moving trust and fiduciary services inside the private bank places succession and legacy planning alongside investment advice under one reporting line.

The second is geographic: relocating the global head from London to Hong Kong reflects where a growing share of cross-border family structuring work now sits. Succession, structures and the transfer of family wealth between generations are examined directly on the UKFOS Oxford 2026 programme.
